Service Description

WHO: Dan Marko began his work in the wellness industry as a Certified Personal Trainer, then trained and worked as a massage therapist, earned a BA in Contemplative Psychology from the Naropa Institute, and is currently working on his Master’s degree in Consciousness Studies. Dan developed his own unique approach to healing energy, weaving together the wisdoms of Energy Medicine, Yoga, Ayurveda and Shamanism. Dan has over 25 years of Spiritual Wellness counseling experience and currently works with Canyon Ranch in Lenox MA. Dan has taught internationally, developed and presented the Body-Mind awareness series in 2014 and 2015 for Mayo Health Systems in La Crosse WI. WHAT: There are a few waterfalls tucked in Massachusetts' biggest state forest, October Mountain State Forest, but Schermerhorn Gorge is probably the pick of the lot. In total, the horsetails that adorn this outlet stream are 30-feet tall. We will also take in the expansive beauty hiking a flat 1 mile around (or possibly across) Woods Pond which is dammed cove of the Housatonic River. The base of the falls is a short 100yd hike from the main trail. Round trip is less than 2mi. WHERE: Follow directions to October Mountain State Forest campground and drive past the main headquarters. This road is also a continuation of Bradley St. Follow Bradley St. for 1.7 miles additional miles from here (staying straight through an intersection at 0.4 mile and passing the state forest campground on the right at 0.8 mile) and you'll reach a junction at the southern tip of Woods Pond. Park efficiently as there are ice fisherman who use the parking area as well. We will have a registration table by the snowbank blocking the rest of Woodland Rd. HOW: Please wear comfortable clothing and dress in layers to stay warm. Bring water or a thermos with a hot drink. I suggest you bring one more warm layer than you think you will need. We will be moving at a pace that keeps us all together so temperatures may feel cooler than you expect. Bring anything else you may want to be warm and comfortable outdoors (gloves, hat, neck warmer, etc.). Again, think in terms of wearing one more layer than you think you’ll need. If traction cleats are needed we will have some to borrow along with hiking poles, but feel free to bring your own just in case. If you have any questions or need to contact us before the hike , please call or text us at 413-591-9355.
